What are Cookies?
“Cookies” are small files that a website sends to the Internet user’s browser, and the browser returns them to the server when the website is visited again, thereby identifying the user. Thus, a website can e.g. adjusts ads, records visit history, saves settings and usernames and passwords… – collects various, including personal, information about the user.
The new Act on Electronic Communications (ZEKom-1) requires that every website that uses cookies provides the following information to the user:
- what cookies it contains,
- for what purpose are they collected and
- the way they are used.
